Central Credit Union of Maryland

If you’ve had trouble with checking accounts in the past, the “Renew Checking” can help you get back on track. Renew Checking can give you a renewed opportunity to handle your personal finances. You must be established with net pay direct deposit and there is a monthly service fee. After 12 months of proper usage, you may reapply for a free CENTRAL checking account.

Clear Mountain Bank

Clear Mountain Bank offers two accounts. The “StartFresh First Step Account” requires a $50 minimum opening deposit and features a free Visa check card, free onine bill pay, online and mobile banking, a $9.95 monthly fee, $3.00 monthly discount with regular payroll direct deposit and after 12 months in good standing with a StartFresh First Step account, you may qualify and apply for a standard StartFresh Checking account. The “StartFresh Checking Account” offers the same features but after 18 months in good standing with a StartFresh Checking account, you may qualify and apply for a traditional checking account.

CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union

They offer a second chance checking which must be opened in the branch.

Greenbelt Federal Credit Union

Greenbelt Federal Credit Union uses Telecheck to open accounts. They offer a wide variety of financial products and services including a Share Draft Checking and Savings Account.

PNC Bank

PNC Bank offers the “Foundations Checking” for customers that are entering or re-establishing themselves in the banking system. The account is eligible for upgrade to a regular account in 6 months with good account management. There is a monthly service fee of $7 and a fee for a paper statement is $2 per month.

Premier Bank

They offer an account called StartFresh Checking. Customers get unlimited checking writing, a debit card, free online banking and bill payment. $50 minimum opening deposit is required. There is a $7.95 monthly service charge with direct deposit and $9.95 monthly service charge without direct deposit. After 18 months customers in good standing may qualify for a more favorable checking account at Premier Bank.

Security Plus Federal Credit Union

The “Revive Checking Account” is for members with past issues that prevented you from opening a checking account. The account features a minimum opening deposit of $25, a monthly service fee of $5.00 unless you have at least one ACH credit per month, access to a Visa debit card 30 days after you’ve opened your account and free smartphone and tablet apps.

United Bank

United Bank offers several checking accounts and they do have a free account for everyone. The “United FREE Checking offers No minimum balance; No monthly service charge; No per check charge; Unlimited check writing; United VISA® Check Card*; FREE Online Banking; FREE Bill Pay and eStatements. They do not use ChexSystems. The minimum opening deposit is $50.


Woodforest offers a “Second Chance” account. The minimum opening deposit is $25.00. There is a monthly service charge which breaksdown as follows: $7.95 with direct deposit(3); $9.95 without direct deposit and a $9.00 one-time account set up fee.

Washington Savings Bank

The Rewards Card Checking offers deposit of payroll or government benefit with a monthly fee of $4.95 and $7.95 per month without direct deposit, you’ll receive a checkbook and Mastercard® debit card with no overdraft fees or ATM fees! Free nationwide ATM access at over 55,000 Allpoint®.
