Michigan Second Chance Checking Accounts

Michigan-Second-Chance-Banks

If you are in ChexSystems or EWS in Michigan open a new account at a Michigan Non-ChexSystems bank. Some credit unions even offer Michigan second chance checking accounts that will give you a fresh start at banking.

Being unbanked in Michigan means paying check cashing stores, purchasing money orders or depending on a prepaid debit card. Plus, if you use cash to pay bills you can lose or misplace receipts. Using a bank to conduct financial transactions is safer and more convenient — plus saves you money on fees.

Roughly 5 percent of Michigan households are “unbanked,” meaning they don't have checking or savings accounts, according to a 2017 survey by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. An additional 15 percent are considered “underbanked” because they have bank accounts but still use alternative financial services like check cashers.

It's no fun to fork over part of your paycheck to get cash and money orders. Check cashing fees can range from 2 percent for payroll checks up to 10 percent for personal checks.

If your ChexSystems record has unpaid debt, consider options at banks that don't use ChexSystems or bank accounts for bad credit.
