Who we are was created in 2007 to provide FREE information for consumers as well as small business owners to rebuild credit history and improve credit scores. Once a consumer has a foundation in credit literacy making good credit decisions becomes easy. wants to share knowledge to help consumers improve credit scores. Credit history has become intimately tied to financial well-being. Unfortunately many consumers get very little credit education and know little about building credit scores and maintaining a good credit history. It’s not a subject taught in school — but it should be. Access to credit education is an important tool for wealth accumulation and for establishing the resources to withstand short-term economic hardships. Even if you use cash, there’s no avoiding your credit score.

About this scholarship

We are happy to announce the Rebuild Credit Scores Credit Literacy Scholarship. This scholarship program is an opportunity for U.S. college students to earn $1,000 towards education costs of the college they attend.


  • This scholarship is not limited to any particular major, and all majors can apply. We encourage study and learning across all disciplines.
  • Submit 600 – 1,000 word essay on the subject given below.


To be eligible to participate, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Content must be written in English only.
  • Contest is open to applicants aged 19 or older who reside in the United States.
  • Contest is open to applicants who currently attend a two-year or four-year college or university in the 2018-2019 school year and are in good standing.
  • We have no cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) requirement.

Essay Requirements:

Please address the following topic in an essay:

Problem: Most states fall short when it comes to teaching personal finance concepts including credit literacy to high school students. Subsequently, young adults entering college often have little knowledge of credit reports, credit scores, credit cards and even bank accounts. Lack of credit education often leads people to this site in order to learn how to rebuild credit scores. Additionally, lack of knowledge about banking often lands people in ChexSystems and people end up needing a second chance bank to get a fresh start. Credit literacy for students is lacking.

Essay Questions: (1) What did you learn about credit, credit scores, bank accounts and credit cards either in your home or in high school; and (2) What are creative ways that schools, communities and parents can educate young adults about credit and the use of credit cards prior to entering college?

  • 600 – 1,000 words; please note the word count at the end of the essay. Only one essay submission per student; multiple submissions will disqualify the applicant.
  • Submit your essay in pdf format to Include in the email your full name, mailing address and telephone phone number. Put “Scholarship” in the subject field.
  • Submissions must come from your school (.edu) email address.
  • Submissions in languages other than English will not be accepted.
  • Your area of study and name of the school you attend.
  • Proof that you are a student of the school you specified – (1) Copy of school identification and (2) Unofficial Transcript


  • Contest begins August 15, 2018
  • Essays must be submitted by January 15, 2019

Winner Selection:

One winner will be selected to receive the scholarship. The winner will be selected by Rebuild Credit Scores staff. Evaluation will be based on many factors, including:

  • Compelling response with real-life examples
  • Well-written and well-organized essay
  • Winner selection is based on our sole determination.
  • The winner will be notified by email and announced on our website.
  • The winner must submit a profile photo to be published on our site in the “Scholarship Winners Section.”

Prize Awarding:

On February 1, 2019, a Winner shall be selected. The winner will be notified on February 1, 2019, via the email address and phone number provided. The winner must sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility and Publicity and Rights Release, and the Personal Release of the person appearing in the entry, within ten (10) days of attempted delivery or scholarship prize will be forfeited.

Winner must choose either Company Check or Paypal in which to receive Scholarship prize. Proceeds will be forwarded directly to the Winner.
